Iran Labels U.S. as Top Terrorism Sponsor
(MENAFN) Iran strongly refuted what it described as “baseless claims” made by U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday, criticizing Washington and labeling it "the largest sponsor of terrorism.”
The remarks came in response to statements made by Trump during his address to Israel’s Knesset the previous day, ahead of his participation in a global peace conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
While speaking to Israeli lawmakers, Trump claimed that Iran was seeking a peace agreement with the United States “even if they said, ‘We don’t want to make a deal.’”
Iran swiftly reacted to the assertion, condemning it through an official declaration issued by its Foreign Ministry.
According to the statement published by an Iranian state-run news agency, the ministry argued: "The US, as the world’s largest generator of terrorism and supporter of the terrorist and genocidal (Israeli) Zionist regime, has no moral authority to level accusations against others.”
The ministry further emphasized that repeating “false claims” about Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities cannot serve as justification for what it called the “joint crimes” carried out by the U.S. and Israel on Iranian territory.
On June 13, Israel carried out an unexpected offensive targeting a variety of sites in Tehran, including military, nuclear, and civilian facilities, along with prominent military officers and scientists associated with Iran’s nuclear program.
In retaliation, Tehran launched missile and drone attacks, while the United States struck three Iranian nuclear facilities.
The conflict, which spanned 12 days, ended when a ceasefire brokered by the U.S. came into force on June 24.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry also demanded that Washington be held responsible for enabling Israel’s “impunity,” criticizing its role in blocking meaningful actions at the UN Security Council and interfering with global legal efforts aimed at bringing Israeli perpetrators to justice.
