Trump Warns Iran Nuclear Pursuit Would Block Peace Deal
Speaking in an interview, Trump said, “They cannot have a nuclear weapon. If they don’t, we’re not making a deal.”
He reiterated that the core issue in negotiations remains Iran’s nuclear program, adding that Iran has already been “hit very hard.”
Trump also warned of the scale of US military capability, saying, “We could take out every one of their bridges in one hour. We could take out every one of their power plants, electric power plants, in one hour. We don't want to do that,” before adding, “We'll see what happens.”
He further argued that Iran posed a broader regional threat, claiming that Tehran aimed to dominate the Middle East and would have developed and potentially used nuclear weapons if not stopped.
Recent talks were held in Islamabad over the weekend in an attempt to end the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran that began on February 28, but no agreement was reached. Efforts are continuing to arrange another round of negotiations.
A two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan on April 8 is still in effect.
Trump also commented on relations with China, saying he maintains a strong working relationship with President Xi Jinping and noting that Xi reportedly denied claims that Beijing is supplying weapons to Iran.
