Pakistan Seeks to Revive US–Iran Dialogue Amid Ongoing Nuclear Stalemate

(MENAFN) Pakistan is stepping up diplomatic initiatives aimed at encouraging Washington and Tehran to resume direct negotiations, as major disagreements — particularly surrounding Iran’s nuclear program — continue to prevent progress, according to two Pakistani government sources familiar with the matter.

The sources said both countries are currently communicating proposals and messages through Islamabad in an effort to ease tensions and reopen dialogue. However, they noted that neither side has shown flexibility on the key nuclear dispute, leaving negotiations at a standstill.

According to the sources, Pakistan’s immediate diplomatic priority, alongside several regional partners, is to convince the US and Iran to participate in a new round of face-to-face talks in Islamabad.

They added that Pakistani officials remain optimistic that the two countries will eventually return to negotiations despite the ongoing impasse.

Islamabad reportedly believes that direct engagement between the two sides would produce better results than relying on indirect communication through intermediaries.

In recent diplomatic outreach, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held fresh discussions with leaders from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt over the past day to explore possible ways to overcome the diplomatic deadlock.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other senior Iranian officials on Sunday as part of renewed efforts to restart a second phase of negotiations with the United States aimed at ending the conflict.
