Netanyahu Reviews Renewed Confrontation with Iran

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assembled his security Cabinet on Monday to examine the likelihood of a renewed military confrontation with Iran, according to Hebrew-language media outlets.

The Israel Hayom newspaper reported that the session followed a comparable Cabinet meeting held on Sunday, which came after a telephone conversation between Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump aimed at coordinating the “next step” concerning Iran.

Citing a source acquainted with the American deliberations, the report stated that another US strike against Iran was “not a question of if, but when.”

The source indicated that any forthcoming assault would differ from earlier operations and might focus on locations that Trump had previously refrained from targeting.

The publication also referenced unnamed Israeli security officials who said that preparations and precautionary steps had already been implemented in expectation of another potential escalation with Iran.

Regional strains have intensified since the United States and Israel carried out attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, triggering retaliatory responses from Tehran as well as disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire was enforced on April 8 through mediation by Pakistan, yet negotiations in Islamabad did not achieve a permanent settlement. The truce was subsequently prolonged by Trump without any defined expiration date.
