The latest news from Iran
Provided by AGPIn a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated that he was asked by the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates to hold off on the operation.
He identified Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as having urged Washington to pause the planned attack, citing ongoing efforts toward a possible agreement.
According to Trump, Gulf officials expressed confidence that negotiations were making progress and could still lead to a diplomatic settlement. He reiterated that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons remains a central requirement for any potential deal.
He added that, in deference to these requests, he instructed senior US defense and military leadership to suspend preparations for the planned strike, while keeping forces ready to act if talks fail.
Trump also warned that the US could still proceed with a “full, large scale assault” on short notice if an acceptable agreement is not reached.
The announcement comes amid heightened regional tensions following earlier military exchanges involving the US, Israel, and Iran, as well as ongoing but stalled diplomatic efforts mediated through regional partners.
