Iran Says It Shot Down U.S. MQ-9 Drone
The IRGC said the assault on the Bahrain-based fleet was launched at 2:30 a.m. local time, framing it as direct retaliation for recent American strikes on Jask, Sirik, and Qeshm in southern Iran. The corps detailed specific damage inflicted by those US strikes, stating they had knocked out a telecommunications tower in Sirik and destroyed two water tanks in the city's Bamani district.
Tehran made clear the confrontation was far from over. "The clashes are ongoing," the IRGC statement read, adding a stark warning that "heavier responses" would follow if attacks continue.
The announcements came hours after US Central Command (CENTCOM) declared the completion of what it described as "self-defense" strikes against Iran — confirming that American fighter jets had targeted Iranian air defense systems and radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz in response to Iran's earlier downing of a US Army Apache helicopter.
With drones in the air, fleets under fire, and both sides openly threatening further action, the Gulf region now confronts the most acute risk of full-scale military escalation it has faced in years.
