Lapid Says Emerging US–Iran Deal Undermines Israel’s War Objectives

(MENAFN) Former Israeli Prime Minister and opposition leader Yair Lapid said on Saturday that Israel would fail to achieve its stated war objectives under the emerging agreement between the United States and Iran.

Writing on the US social media platform X, Lapid accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of mishandling the Iran issue, arguing that the deal taking shape does not meet Israel’s core security goals.

He said the Iranian government would remain in power under the agreement, its missile program would continue, and Tehran would retain the ability to rebuild its nuclear capabilities in the future.

Lapid described the situation as “Netanyahu’s complete failure,” claiming that Israel had been reduced to the status of a “satellite state” receiving external direction on matters of national security. He added that “no press conference, media manipulation, or AI-generated video can hide this failure.”

Meanwhile, Israeli political and security officials reportedly expressed concern about the near-final agreement between Washington and Tehran.

According to a media outlet, officials in Israel believe the deal could strengthen Iran’s government and restrict Israel’s military operational freedom in Lebanon.
