Iranian Foreign Minister Holds Mediation Talks on Hormuz Proposal
No US representative is expected to participate in the meeting.
Araghchi and the Iranian delegation are set to discuss the latest proposals and assess views on the current situation with the mediators.
At the beginning of his visit to New York, Araghchi said Iran had offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as part of a potential agreement to end the war, in return for the release of Iranian funds and assets that Tehran says were frozen unlawfully.
The proposal was reportedly passed to the US through mediators in New York.
US President Donald Trump rejected the offer, according to reports, although messages have continued to be exchanged as efforts continue to restart negotiations, end the US naval blockade and reopen the strategic waterway.
Asked earlier about Washington’s response to Iran’s seven-point proposal, Araghchi said: “We saw the initial reaction from the US president, but the mediators have not yet conveyed anything to us.”
