Qalibaf Warns Regional Oil Exports Face Threat If Iran Is Blocked
“The US and other countries should know, as we have said, that in a region where we cannot sell oil, no one will sell oil,” Qalibaf said.
The remarks come as Iran faces mounting pressure on its oil trade amid its confrontation with Washington and continuing US sanctions, which have significantly restricted its ability to export crude.
In August, Iran’s Central Bank governor reported that the country’s oil exports had dropped to zero, attributing the halt to the conflict and economic restrictions imposed on Tehran.
Meanwhile, the US military stated on Sept. 19 that more than 1 billion barrels of crude had transited the Strait of Hormuz in recent months with American military support. Washington also maintained that Iran had shipped “zero barrels” under what it describes as its “ironclad blockade.”
“If our security is not guaranteed, no infrastructure will be safe,” Ghalibaf said.
Earlier this month, the Iranian parliamentary speaker also cautioned that Tehran could retaliate against US energy facilities and assets throughout the Gulf and near the Strait of Hormuz if Washington launched attacks on Iranian oil and gas infrastructure.
